Question:
Is it normal for a cleaning lady to...?

Go through drawers?
I came home about 30 minutes ago to discover that the drawers in my room (2 bedside tables on either side of my bed) had been cleaned out and organized.
She dumped a lot of important papers.
And I had lots of personal stuff in there I would rather not have my cleaning lady going through, you know?
Isn't going through someone's BEDROOM DRAWERS a little bit of an invasion of privacy?
It makes me feel extremely uncomfortable.
Or am I just overreacting?

Nope, not normal!

Is she working for a maid service, or did you hire her from a temp service? If so, you should contact whichever and report it.

I'm guessing that you hired her through some other means, perhaps a newspaper or online ad? Home cleaning services and temp agencies usually send out TEAMS ... and I think it's pretty standard that they are not to TOUCH anything that isn't visible from the doorway of the room (contents of drawers, closets) unless specifically asked to do so (and maybe not even then, for liability reasons).

If you hired her privately, the burden was on you, before she began working, to spell out exactly what was and was NOT to be done. Of course, you didn't expect her to go through your drawers, so it's understandable that you didn't think of it!

I'll give her the benefit of the doubt (she DID organize the drawers) and say she probably thought she was going the extra mile for you, but I'd be real clear in the future that you want things like drawers and closets left alone!

Tell your cleaning lady Nicely to please not go through my drawers because it is a bit personal to do so. But if she does it again after you told her not to fire her.

Hope this helps!

what you need to do is go through some rules with her tell her clearly what is to be cleaned and when should not be cleaned, if that does not work lock them, then tell her you will fire her from her job of tell the company she works for and ask for someone new! please vote me best answer thank and good luck!
