What kinds of detergent do you use to wash all of your family's clothes and do you have to go to the laundromat or do you have one of those new washing machines and driers like the ones you see in TV commercials?

Yes I have a front load washing machine so I have to use the HE deteregents..I use Sunlight X3 HE and love it..I also use Snuggle Fabric Softener and OxyClean spray on stains. I used Tide for years, but the Sunlight cleans so much better, I will never go back to Tide.
I went to the laundromat for about a year while we were purchasing land and building a house, and it took us around 2 hours to do a week's worth of laundry for a family of 4. It is just so convenient to have your own machine. I don't miss having to load up the truck and go out to do the laundry.

I definetly have a washing machine! With two toddlers a dog and husband that works in a greasy factory it's a must! I use whatever is on sale and whatever I have coupons for- like WISK, ERA or ALL. Which I normally buy from Bj's wholesale- they have their own coupons I can combine with manufacturer coupons. I I further save money on laundry by only using 1/2 the normal detergent and adding 1 cup of baking soda to the wash load.... It cleans and softens the clothing AND gets out tough stains and odors so if the container does 90 washloads I get 120-150+. I also use mostly COLD water/COLD rinse AND I wash and dry my clothing seperatly. I've noticed by NOT running major appliances together at the same time. I save about 50% on my electric bill.
Before I was married I went to the laundrymat. I spent for two people's clothing about $5-$10 a week, and it took about 2 hours to get most laundry done if I used the double capacity machine's or more than 1 washer/dryer. However, there was the time to load, transport, unload and wait for the washer/dryer. When I was single or without children it wasn't a big deal but, I can't imagine doing that with two toddlers in tow! I like to just pop in a load of wash and clean or do other things while the washe/dryer is running..!
I do about 6-8 loads of laundry a week. My husband and I wear work clothing which gets done once a week. The rest is mostly kids clothing, linens/towels, and "whites". Also, our washer/dryer pair is an older model under 10 yrs. old and is SUPER-Large cap. Which can wash a king sized comforter. I've used the front loaders and they are OK. They seem to take longer than traditional washer/dryers and if you don't leave them open to air out after washing they seem to get "funky" ! We paid for our washer/dryer about 6-7 yrs ago under $1000 and they work great!
Good luck

We had the same concern take place with our GE type S3700E1WW washer. approximately 6 years whilst we offered it those gritty clumps without warning began to look. i attempted the techniques above to no avail. the countless clumps have been as super as a blouse button that have been given me thinking that the quantity of cleansing soap in one load ought to not have coagulated into clumps that super. additionally, they have been fairly compressed, which does not take place except that they had shaped and dried out persistently to construct as much as the size and consistency they have been. they'd desire to be coming from a source interior the washer, and the only place not seen is under the agitator. BINGO, THE CLUMPS have been FORMING ON a grey colored PIECE under THE AGITATOR that appears like steel yet probable IS PLASTIC, (that is CONE formed like the backside OF THE AGITATOR). THEY THEN initiate BREAKING OFF AFTER YEARS OF BUILDUP. THE PIECE gave the effect of it HAD SMALL POX OR intense POISON IVY! I SCRAPED OFF approximately AN 8th OF A CUP OF THEM! IT regarded they may well be FORMING by ability of A CHEMICAL reaction between THE DETERGENT, LINT, and so on AND the fabric, AS once I SCRAPED and then SCRUBBED IT, the section the place that they had shaped (approximately 20% OF THE PIECE did not have ANY CLUMPS related) became somewhat ETCHED WITH THE CLUMP development. So, pull out the agitator and scrape them off with a narrow putty knife, scouring pad, and so on. On some washers you pull off the agitator cap and then do away with a bolt attaching the agitator to the basket. On ours the agitator is only secured to a spline on the backside of the basket with plastic palms so that is pulled off with a forceful jerk, or by ability of jerking it area to area to loosen the grip of the palms jointly as pulling up. yet another rationalization why i think of the grey fabric is the reason being that our previous washer, additionally a GE, became offered in 1972 and lasted until 2008 as quickly as we offered this one. It in no way had a clumping concern, so curiously some washers do in 6 or maybe even much less years, and a few in no way do. It probable relies upon on no rely if the washer has fabric in it that promotes the formation of those clumps. So if yours produces those clumps, i'm valuable they'll sort lower back and yet another cleansing would be mandatory whilst they lower back initiate appearing.

I have a washer and dryer and use Arm and Hammer detergent, and sometimes use Oxy Clean for the tough stains on jeans.
I also use fabric softener in the final rinse.
