My cat peed in our utility closet a couple of weeks ago and I must not have cleaned it up well enough because it's starting to really stink. It was a sour-rotten mystery smell for a couple of days until I figured out where it was coming from. What is the best way to get rid of that awful smell?

The best cat urine odor remover I've ever found is Lemon Scented Pine Sol.

I had a problem with cat urine smells when I babysat my father's cat for 3 months. I tried Vinegar, Baking Soda, Enzymes, and Febreze. None of these worked for me.

What finally eliminated stench of pee was Lemon Scented Pine Sol. Nothing else even dented that smell.

Pour undiluted Lemon Scented Pine Sol into a spritzer bottle and spray the inside of the closet with this.

Allow to dry.

Small warning: the scent of the Lemon Pine Sol will be absolutely overwhelming for a while (it actually made me woozy), but the smell dissipates. And once it does the urine smell will be gone -- not covered up, but gone.

You might have to repeat a couple of times, but this works. This is the ONLY thing I have ever found that gets rid of the smell of cat urine.

Make sure you use the Lemon Scented Pine Sol, not the regular scent.

Hm...most utility rooms are not carpeted, but if it is, change out the pad (cleaning it will never work) and have the carpet cleaned. If the floor is hard surface, you might want to remove the entire contents, clean the room with diluted vinegar or whatever cleaner you like, then clean everything as you put it back in.

Be sure you know the difference between cat pee and cat spray. If you cat is spraying in there you have an entirely different problem, although my suggestions above for cleaning will still resolve the smell, til the cat does it again.

Go to a pet store and get a bottle of Natures Miracle, the one that is for cats. Follow the directions that are on the bottle.

Natures Miracle got cat pee out of my mattress.

Nature's Miracle, or Simple Solution is the answer, if the urine is only on the carpet.

If you still smell it after using either one, the problem is the padding, and nothing will get it out, except replacing it.

First of all your premise is wrong -cat pee is a LIQUID, therefore it soaks through the carpet and remains trapped in the padding and eventually the underfloor. You will NEVER rid yourself of the odor. Try fire if you really want results.
