mop, broom, dust pan, Clorox, Lysol tub & tile cleaner, Comet, Pledge, Murphy's oil soap, buckets, sponges, rags, paper towels and I personally like the Lysol that comes in the brown bottle. You can use it for everything.

I love Lysol in a pail of warm water. It cleans the toughest grease and grime, and also disinfects. It's awesome stuff; go for it. Great on floors. I use Comet powder in the bathtub and toilet.

Start with your sleeping bag and a toothbrush--that's what we did. You'll figure out what you need really fast as you go along. Look on Craigslist for some decent used furniture--that is, unless you're going to live in a place like New York City where bedbugs have become rampant. If this is the case, then go through your trustworthy military grapevine to find used upholstered furniture, or look for upholstered furniture at places like Ikea, or places online that are well-rated but inexpensive--you don't want to buy expensive furniture at this point in your life because you're probably going to move again so it would just be a millstone around your neck. While you're looking for nicer furniture, pick up a couple of stackable plastic outdoor chairs and a cheap fold-up table. This isn't money wasted because--you'll be amazed--you'll find yourself using these inexpensive plastic chairs and table for the rest of your life.

All you need is vinegar, baking soda, lemon juice, & borax. These are natural cleaners that clean and disinfect

For wood – murphy’s oil soap to clean, old English to repair dings. Be careful not to use anything like pledge on the hardwood floors or someone will slip and crack their skull!! lol

For bathroom – comet and good soap scum remover for the tub, shower, and sink; Lysol spray cleaner with bleach for the toilet.

For the kitchen – soft scrub for a stainless steel sink, disinfectant for the appliances and cupboard shelves. Shelf liner if you want to line them when you’re done. Vinegar and water for the inside of the fridge. Oven cleaner for the inside of the oven unless it is self-cleaning. SOS pads for the really scary stuff.

For tile floor – Hot water and vinegar (vacuum well first or you will wash dirty water into the grout) DO NOT use vinegar on natural stone. This should be cleaned with hot water only and sealed with a stone sealer.

For dirty grout – clean tile as described above then stain with a grout stain (available at any home improvement store). Use a foam brush applicator. Once restained, seal with a grout sealer to keep it looking good.

For carpet – resolve carpet cleaner and a good scrub brush

For windows – hot water and vinegar

Tools – Lamps with light bulbs (you can’t clean in the dark), vacuum, broom, dustpan, trash bags, 3-5 medium sponges (make sure some have an abrasive side for scrubbing), buckets, rags, toilet brush, razor blades (to scrape gunk off of windows), putty knife (to scrape gunk off of other places, large scrub brush for the floors, smaller scrub brush with handle for hard-to-reach places, and my number one favorite cleaning aid…

Lysol disposable wipes. They are great for wiping down door knobs, cupboard handles, outside of toilets, and light switch covers.
