I bought a new stainless steel hob oven recently, and I notice already there are stubborn brown marks at the side of the rings, any ideas for a good solvent, or would Mr. Muscle oven cleaner suit.
Thanks for your ideas.

If the stains are from the effects of heat on the metal, there are products that motorcycle owners use to restore their polished metal mufflers that are heat stained, and that could work. If the stains are from contamination that is baked on, then oven cleaner could work, but be sure to get it completely off because over a long period of time the cleaner residue could cause its' own stains. To restore a brushed metal appearance, you can use very fine steel wool with enough complexion soap (not detergent) that the steel wool glides along with little streaks of foam. Rub exactly with the grain. Too little or too much water in the soapy steel wool scratch the surface and make permanent marks. That method requires a deft touch so it would be good to practice on something like a spoon that is not valuable. Not all stainless steel is equal and you may be fighting a losing battle in this case. Try sticking a magnet to the surface and if is attracted as strongly as ordinary steel, be prepared to do some polishing in the future.

Wilkinson sell a stainless steel cleaner at around £1.50 per can. Its called Eezit in a blue/silver can with a blue lid. Spray on,wipe over with kitchen paper then bugg with clean kitchen paper. Works for me. I wouldnt use Mr Muscle or anything like that it may stain your stainless steel if that makes sense
