Question:
How to get tea stains out of white mugs?

I've just moved into a very hard water area and my mugs are really suffering. I used to find soaking them in hot water with bicarbonate of soda cleaned them up perfectly, but it's not doing the trick now and no matter how hard I scrub they remain brown!

Try rubbing the baking soda directly on the stain. Put it on a damp cloth, apply elbow grease and it should take the stains off. If that doesn't work, you can fill the cup with water and add a teaspoon full of bleach. But that can be hard on fine china. You could also try Fantastic or some of the spot removers. They're pretty powerful.

Add a squirt of bleach to the mug, and then fill it to the rim with hot water. Leave to soak overnight, and then wash the mug(s) as usual in the morning.

Try getting a water filter put in through which you can add a water softening agent. You could always use dishwasher powder and I'm not being smart. Use small amounts of water with the powder to form a paste and then scrub with a sponge or scrubber.

Strong solution of bleach left overnight remember to rinse carefully in the morning otherwise your tea will taste really yuck. Your mugs are becoming too porous and perhaps you should consider spending a bit more on good quality bone china or ones with a thicker internal coating.

Try Soft Scrub with Bleach. It is awsome! It won't scratch your mugs but will clean the tea out. I drink alot of tea and that's how I keep stains under control.

Put some detergent (soap powder) in the cup with hot water and soak for a couple of hours, or diluted bleach. Rinse well with hot water.

Leaving them to soak in very hot water before you wash them usualy helps.

If you use a dishwasher always give them a quick rinse before you put them in.

If you get it gets too bad leave them in bleach over night and the wash them up in the morning to get rid of the bleach.

Hard water is a curse.

I pour a little bleach in mine once in a while. You can also pour about a cup of bleach in the dishwasher after the water starts, close the door and let the dishwasher clean them

Sounds like you have scratched the cups beyond repair and the tea stains are now ingrained. Do yourself a favour and go out and buy yourself some new cups.

Try spraying them with Tilex and allow it to remain for about 15 minutes before washing.

I've used this method for flower vases.

Buy a simple and in expensive piece of equipment called a scale wizard...it costs about £90 but it saves your cups, toilets, sinks, bowls, kettles, irons and washing machines!

Simple to install, and simple to use...once it is installed you foget about it and let it do it's magic.
