If you clean your body when you shower (which is why you're taking a shower in the first place), you are using the towel to dry yourself. You're not scrubbing the floor with it! Hang it up to dry, and use it for a week. Washing a towel after every time you use it, is a waste of water/washing soda/time.
And another tip: If you have a shower curtain rather than a shower enclosure, close the shower curtain and let the moisture drip into the tub. If you push it open, it traps the moisture and that leads to mould on the shower liner.

It can be used a couple of times, as long as it is being thoroughly dried in between uses. In other words, do not fold it to dry. I don't know why people do that, but it needs to be stretched out (unbunched and unfolded) to dry, otherwise it won't matter how many times you use it. If it hasn't thoroughly dried, you mind as well throw it out because it will retain the smell of the wet towel on some level, unless its bleached. Most people can't smell it, but I can.
It is true that towels collect germs. But so does the area around the toilet and most people don't wash and bleach the top of the toilet/toilet seat daily. We live in a world where germs exist. I think if you are thoroughly clean and the towel is thoroughly dry, you could use it 2 or 3 times. If you don't mind doing the laundry often and/or can afford to buy several towels, then use it once. Most people aren't in that position though.

Obviously all the answers above are from single people who do not do their own laundry. Imagine the number of towels from a family of four after a week.....28 towels! So silly.
If you allow the towel to dry properly, you can use it once/day for a week. If you are worried about drying your face with the piece of the towel you dried your bottom end with during the previous use, make sue you use the end with the tag for the bottom drying. Alternatively, use a hand towel for face drying.

I use my towel once before washing it but, service men and women are taught to use theirs about a week prior to washing it. The important thing is to make sure it air dries by hanging it up loosely. If you will add 1/4 cup of baking soda to your laundry when washing it, your laundry will not smell between washings. So, how often you rub - a - dub - dub your towel is up to you.

I only use mine once, hang it up to dry and then put it in the laundry the next day. that way, even if you dont wash it for a few days, it wont mildew or smell.

I use mine 3-4 times. The fact is,if you wash properly there are no germs to transfer to the towel.I spread mine out over the shower rail to dry out properly.

If you let it dry thoroughly between uses you can use it at least 3 times.
