String mops are better, so long as you have the right wringer for it. They last longer than the sponges and you can wash them in your washing machine. If it has a detactable head. If not just rinse it under cold water for a while and then it is clean to use again. Those disposible ones, do nothing but take up landfill space.

I prefer the sponge mop. It is easier to use than the old fashioned string mop. Simply use some Mop and Glo. No need for a bucket! Fill your kitchen sink with hot water. After going over an area of the kitchen with the Mop and Glo, rinse the sponge mop in the kitchen sink. Reapply Mop and Glo to another area of the kitchen and repeat until the entire floor is done.

The string style mop is difficult to ring out. Plus if you don't get the mop thoroughly dry, it tends to mildew. I also think it is less sanitary than a sponge mop.

well I think with sponge you seem to be left with streak marks all time , and they wear out very quick, I like the good old string mop´s as they are easy to keep clean , with a small about of your own washing powder , in hot water & by just swiveling the mop handle between your hands whilst the mop is in the water it gets all the dirt out ,a good rinse and it´s as new as ever, most people make the mistake of washing there mop´s in bleach , this only burns the strings quicker . The last mop head I bought was about 4 months ago and it´s still as new and as fresh as ever

Get a Swiffer!

Seriously, this is the only mop to have.

It's more expensive than a rag or sponge mop, but you never have to wring anything out, don't have to have a bucket of water, don't have to have a floor that takes forever to dry.

The Wet Jet is the one to look for.

You can find coupons for $10 off on their site usually too, and you can find the refills and solutions at discount stores like Dollar General and Family Dollar.

Neither mop is right you should get the swiffer mops because you can dispose of the dirt and bacteria when your done mopping. the string mop and sponge mop both hold a lot of nasty things you don't want to know about... ewwwww. you should always use disposable when you can its healthier and cleaner. if you only knew what was in you dish sponge......

I clean houses part time and I found a mop in Home Goods that consists of microfiber fabric. It works better than any other mop I have tried. I have only seen them at Home Goods and at Bed bath and beyond. They handles are painted funky colors, like pink dots and such. They work like a charm and are very easy to wring out. I just love these mops. I think I paid $9.99 for one. Hope this helps.

Hate to tell you but most push dirt into the edges and the corners where they dry into a terrible mess. What has to be done is, you must sweep before mopping. Then you will find the problem isn't so bad. But let face it, the floors need a good on the knees clean once in a while.

String mops are great for larger surfaces as long as you have a special squeegie pail for them. Sponge mops are easier to handle and do the same job.

Swiffer is great...but do not waste money on the refills

I am in the cleaning business and here is our secret!

Try this cleaning cloth for the refills. You have to buy in packages of 5 but they are only like $3 bucks a piece. I have ordered them and use them on everything, especially cleaning windows and clean mirrors. They are made out of tiny fibers. They are guaranteed not to scratch and all you do is rinse the cloth under water, wring it out and wipe ANY surface with no streaks or scratch. Use em over and over. I have not thrown one away yet!

I am sold on this ...I encourage you to try it out….hope this helps…Steve

I think it's personal preference. I like the strings better as long as you have the thing to wring it out.
