how to clean tar off of a pot?

i boiled some water and threw my pipe in it to remove the tar but all the stuff that came off the pipe went onto the pot please help - see attached image

Use what you'd use for cleaning a pipe is you mean tar resin from a smoking pipe, rubbing alcohol.

Take the pot outside and with an old rag

Soaked in gasoline wipe the pot

Leave to soak in and wipe again

It,s the only thing i know that removes tar

Rubbing alcohol or gasoline will take tar right off most surfaces. Just be sure to use it in a well ventilated area, away from heat sources and open flames.

OMG...you posted on CL in the "Boats by Dealer" section???



*sigh*....go to any auto parts store & get some "bug & tar" remover. Spray it on a paper towel, then scrub the pot twice with some hot soapy dishwater. (I'm guessing this is your mothers pot....dirtied by yours)

Rubbing alcohol will liquefy it and you can wipe it right off.
