I'm guessing I had bed bugs (I have been bitten) and cockroaches (they were all over the place). The new apartment will not be ready till April 11th. Meanwhile the exterminators have come in to spray my apartment. I'm staying with my parents till the new apartment is available (in a new apartment complex). I'm planning on trashing all of my furniture, and buying new stuff. I do however need to keep books (for school) and other small items. How do I make sure that I don't take any bugs with me.

As you box everything up, wash it down very very well, then as soon as you close up the box, take it out to your car so that it is out of the appartment. When you do your laundry, wash it well (use a laundromat and wash it again once you have moved) put it in bags/boxes and do not bring it back into the apartment. Getting rid of your furnature will help, but make sure that everything is CLEAN before you move. Good luck hun.

Depending on how much stuff it is, if you can fit it all into one area, put it all together and set a bug bomb off, or since you are already staying with your parents, if they don't have a problem with it, set off a bug bomb there, just incase there may have been any of them in your stuff when you moved in there, that way, if by chance there might have been any amongst your stuff, you will have taken care of your parents place as well as cleared up any of your belongings that you will be taking with you to the new place. If you decide to set off a bug bomb, you should first read the entire label to make sure that it kills roaches and their eggs as well, cause a lot of them don't, then when you are finished, make sure you go through everything very thoroghly and clean it up, cause I know how cockroach infestations can be, and they are hard to kill. They are one of the only living things that has survived since and all through the dinasour ages, if that tells you anything. Good luck, and sorry about the short novel.

whatever you can wash , wash it the HOTTEST temp setting you can. whatever you can , chuck it...anything you want to keep , put in garbage bags, and tie in a KNOT...this will kill any air supply for any critters. I THINK...it needs to stay in bag for ....5-7 days ??? do 7-8 just to be sure , if you can. I don't know if they stil sell them , but they used to sell those bug bombs, where they go off , and cloud of smoke fills room. if you can find those (if they still sell) , you really should have everybody out of the house for the day , then at night really open the windows , and ventilate. good luck !!!

You could put everything in one room, or in the moving truck and set off a bug bomb in there and let set overnight.

Since they're experts in dealing with bugs, you should have asked the exterminators. DUH!
